At the start of the new year 2022, we received our new sensors! In collaboration with LIACS Software Lab, and embedded within the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centre for BOLD Cities, the Schoolyard Project will start new experiments on playgrounds, using the newest sensing technology: the ultra-wideband (UWB) kit and 25 smartwatches. Via the UWB technology, together with smart algorithms and machine learning, we can achieve a much higher accuracy than traditional positioning systems (e.g., WiFi, Bluetooth, RFID or GPS). With the smartwatch on wrist, children can also indicate their feelings and emotions during play. This new set-up will enhance our understanding of children's social behavior. In the Schoolyard Project, we ensure that children are given voice and are the core of our system.
