Gwenn Englebienne's research focuses on understanding and developing interactions between humans and technology. He is an assistant professor at the University of Twente and is interested in the intersection of data-driven machine learning models for the recognition and understanding of human behaviour, and of models of how machines can behave as social agents. Specifically, he focuses on the interplay between natural language, social signal processing and robotics. He developed technology to measure and interpret social touch, both in the context of telepresence and autonomous robotics and worked on using active learning techniques to request human involvement in a minimally disruptive manner.
