Els Blijd-Hoogewys’ research focuses on autistic individuals across life span, and on questionnaire development for clinical use. She is an expert on autism in females, initiator and chair of FANN (Female Autism Network of the Netherlands)*,chair of CASS18+ (network of registered clinicians specializing in adults with autism), and director of the Dutch National Autism Congress. Els is a licensed clinical psychologist and psychotherapist. She is manager of clinical affairs (staff member) and senior researcher at Psychiatrie Noord (Mental health care institute,Groningen).

*FANN is an interdisciplinary network of professionals – including psychologists, psychiatrists, and researchers–dedicated to improving the diagnosis and treatment of girls and women with autism. Autistic individuals are actively involved in the network.
