The Dutch history of slave trade in the 16th century until the abolition in 1863, still shows its traces today. But how aware are we of these traces? On Sunday Oct 1st, the Dutch Black Achievement month started.
As part of this program, the Tropen Museum Amsterdam opened an exhibition on Friday Oct 6th, called “Afterlives of Slavery”, questioning how children today are educated about the Dutch colonial history. Carolien took part in a panel discussion at this opening, chaired by Dr. Aspha Bijnaar, a reknowed sociologist on creating awareness of our slave history in the school curriculum.
