On Saturday 24th of September, we will celebrate World Deaf Day, when the deaf community and sign language get special attention. The Netherlands and Belgium celebrate this Day together and hold events in different cities each year. This year, activities about deafness will be held in Ghent, Belgium, on the 24th of September.
There will be sports activities, theatre and an information market for children and adults. For more information about the activities, please click here (in Dutch).
In honor of WDD, even the radio will be made accessible for deaf people for one day through a sign language interpreter. Also, several museums in Amsterdam, including Tropenmuseum and Rijksmuseum, will provide guided tour with sign language. More information can be found here (in Dutch).
