app signIn collaboration with a father of a deaf boy, and together with deaf children and their siblings, Evelien Dirks has developed an interactive app to teach young children signs. Existing apps were not suitable for very young children, whereas they could be a useful tool to stimulate early language acquisition. The pilot version of this new app includes 14 signs for animals and is currently available for the iPad. The aim is to further expand the app and to make it suitable for other platforms as well. Watch a video of a boy using the app or read more about its development (in Dutch). Evelien Dirks is a researcher at the Dutch Foundation for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Child and one of Carolien's PhD students.
