Study with Focus on Emotions: Bachelor alumnus becomes a member of Oxford University
Mindaugas Jurgelis started his studies at Leiden University in 2013 as a member of the first ever cohort of the International Bachelor in Psychology (IBP). In September 2016, he received his bachelor degree, graduating with honours and summa cum laude, and was a valedictorian speaker at the graduation ceremony. Doing Honours Research Bachelor Project under the supervision of Carolien Rieffe, he investigated the association between social leisure activities and depressive symptoms in adolescence:
"During my years in Leiden, I had a chance to gain a lot of research experience and learn from world-class scientists. A lot of the time things didn’t go as planned which taught me to adjust and deal with uncertainty. It was an extremely valuable, even if not very comfortable experience. I learned a great deal about how psychological studies are conducted, and how abstract scientific concepts are applied and tested in real world conditions. It is fair to say, that Leiden University gave me every opportunity I could have hoped for."
On 15 October 2016, Mindaugas officially became a member of the University of Oxford (United Kingdom). He will be pursuing a master's degree in Psychological Research program. His research project will investigate mental fatigue in Parkinson's patients.
