The Coping Scale is a self-report for children, modified based on the Self-Report Coping Scale (SRCS; Causey and Dubow 1992; Kochendefer-Ladd and Skinner 2002). Children are asked what they would do if something bad happens. Two different coping strategies are assessed: Approach (e.g., “I tell a family member or a friend what has happened”; “I try to find a solution for the problem”) and Avoidant (e.g., “I’ll do something that makes me forget the problem”; “I would say that I don’t care”). The responses are scored on a 5-point scale: 1 = not at all; 2 = hardly ever; 3 = sometimes; 4 = most of the time; 5 = all the time.
