Carolien, Claudia, and Yung-Ting are involved in Working Package 2-Deafness.
Claudia presented the “Children’s access to noisy environments; towards better social inclusion”, in which she described how she wants to use VR in testing CI children's ability for sound selection in noisy environments. This annual plenary meeting is meant for each work package to present their progresses and discuss the outcomes and utilization with the stakeholders.

Wednesday sept 22, Carolien was invited by Autisme TV to talk about bullying in school in a live broadcast. Also at the table was Jeffrey Wijkhuisen, who has autism and experienced a lot of bullying during his high school years. Both Jeffrey and Carolien stressed the harmful effects of being neglected, or as Jeffrey put it “as if you do not exist”, yet this kind of bullying is often not recognized by teachers and mentors. Carolien repeatedly emphasized that bullying is about a (wrong and harmful) group process that should change, but we should never focus on the pupil who is bullied, as this can happen to anyone. The interviewer, Anouk Breeman, responded “I wish I had known this when I was in school”.

The course Clinical and Child Adolescent Psychology (CCAP) for the Bachelor students of Psychology kicked off in the new semester! On 14 September, Boya gave her first physical lecture on "emotion expression" after the university is reopened for education on campus. August 30th, Claudia Libbi (University of Twente) publicly (online) presented and defended her master project “When Life Gives You Lemons". In this project, Claudia designed a prototype of a computer game to support autistic girls (10-16 years old) in thinking about and practicing daily-life social interactions with peers. Every step of its development was done in co-design with autistic girls, who could inform Claudia from first-hand experiences about their daily issues and dilemmas, feeding directly into the game. The prototype was well-received, both by the stakeholders, the autistic girls, and the audience present at the defense.
