Understanding other minds in young children with Autism

AutismThe paper "The Understanding of Intentions, Desires and Beliefs in Young Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder" has been accepted for publication by the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders. In this research paper, Evelien shows that young children with ASD (mean age 4 years old, range 2 – 6 years) can understand intentions of other people towards objects, but they are less likely to share interest, and less likely understand others’ mental states, compared to typically developing peers. This study was carried out in close collaboration with the Center for Autism, also in Leiden.
